2026 The year of the 'Tea Plant' - Camellia Sinensis

Tea Plant Tales
In September 2023 I received a preplanned birthday gift from my Dad; he died in the July of 2023. His gift; a Tea Plant. Having such a plant in an english old coach house garden has been daunting. My experience of Tea Plantations has been in Sri Lanka and China, where the climate is significantly more humid and warm. My Tea Plant is still alive but not, I would say, thriving. It has been indoors during the -9 temperatures of late, and I have been reading up on taking better care of it - with the hope perhaps of harvesting a brew at some point in the future.

Enjoying having a 'tea project' I have decided to dedicate this year to paying good attention to my beautiful Tea Plant where, at the end of each week I will make a pot, pour a cup, take a picture, and reflect on how well I have looked after my Tea Plant. Watch this space whilst drinking tea (of your choice) :)

24th January 2026
Morning tea and a scone with a bit of sunshine, which will hopefully do the tea plant some good. Not such a good picture, and certainly not such a good experience bringing it inside during the -6, but it needed to be in... there are small shoots to be seen, and with some targetted love and care I am hopefully it will revive...green fingers crossed!
